Establishing priorities for a new internal communications function

Background and challenge
Internal communication in this Global FMCG company was generally devolved to individual brands and functions with little direction provided by the comms team. This was to change with the appointment of a new Global Internal Communication Manager and Dialogue was asked to develop a roadmap for setting up the new global function.
Approach
Our starting point was to understand the main internal communication challenges so that we could develop the roadmap around them. This involved undertaking interviews with several senior leaders, focus groups at multiple locations and reviewing the channel environment. The next step was to host a workshop with the core team to analyse the findings and agree a framework for the roadmap which we then populated. Once final, we worked with the global team to engage key stakeholders with it so they could understand expectations going forward.
Results
The roadmap proved key to the launch of the new function and provided with the team with a great starting point for moving forward.
