Developing an interactive e-learning program to enhance more effective people skills

We believe learning should be immersive, interactive, and not a chore! In today’s world, opportunity for face-to-face interaction is more limited, so we must find ways to really bring the ‘virtual’ learning experience to life.

Background and challenge

Within the pharmaceutical industry, Medical Information departments respond to unsolicited medical enquiries about their products, and provide scientific, therapeutic, and product expertise to support healthcare professionals, patients, and payers in making informed decisions for patient care. This department within our global pharma client had a challenge to transform what was originally a dry ‘tick box’ and modular approach, to soft skills learning program that was relatable, digestible and above all, engaging. 

Approach

Human. The one word which sums up our approach to this challenge. At the heart of this program was the need to bring to life the skills required to empathize, understand, and successfully handle what are often complex and difficult enquiries to manage. Therefore, we proposed that each of the five key skills identified be ‘personified’ as an animated character; speaking to the learner as they would speak to enquirers in real life scenarios.

Results

Utilizing the full suite of digital learning tools available, we developed a fully immersive e-learning program, written and delivered in a conversational style, reflecting regulatory requirements and best practices accurately. Individual modules are based on real-life scenarios with the learner able to interact throughout the program via multiple-choice questions and click-throughs to ‘find out more.’  Although launched over four years ago, this continues to be rates as one of the most effective learning programs of its type across the organization.
